Week 37 - 23 Jan

No Christmas or New Year breaks for me this year, training has continued throughout. Well, OK, I did take Christmas Day off - in part because I was travelling home from Sweden that day!

The kilometres swum are racking up nicely and now I have also begun, with the help of my great PR guy, Phillip Quay (www.mediapa.co.nz) to publicise the swim so that I can raise as much money as possible for the Autism Foundation (www.autism.org.nz). We are running a fantastic competition to do this - all you have to do is pay $10 and guess how long it will take me to complete the swim and you could win flights and accommodation for two for a week in Fiji! Click here to enter.

There are many other details to be sorted out before the swim, sometimes it seems quite overwhelming. We need to decide what nutrition and hydration products we'll need and how much as we could be in the water for up to 11 hours. We had a bit of a test on our Waiheke swim and will try again this weekend when we aim to swim 20km off the beach at Takapuna. My favourite so far though has to be my honey sandwiches, using Happy Valley manuka honey - a great energy boost and it takes away the taste of salt! I was so impressed with the product that I have also started using their Bee Pollen Granules which are full of vitamins, minerals, proteins, enzymes, fatty acids and carbohydrate - I've been sprinkling it on my cereal and noticed a real change in my energy levels (www.happyvalley.co.nz).

Off training now, another 5km to notch up, will blog again after we do the 20km swim on Friday..
